I have been making my monthly pilgrimages to Trader Joe's in Westfield or West Windsor for quite some time. I really like many of their pantry and ready-made items. I find the selection to be similar to that of Costco, which I also like, but in much more reasonable quantities. The cheese selection is particularly nice and inexpensive. Trader Joe's is now coming to nearby
Shrewsbury, NJ - yay!! No wine at this location, however - oh well. I am just happy that they are inching closer to home!
Panino di Prosciutto e Fontina - Recipe Courtesy Giada De Laurentiis
My panini grill came in handy this week as I refused to turn on the oven - it has been absolutely sweltering here! I made these delicious paninis in minutes. Two slices of fontina cheese, one slice of prosciutto di parma, fresh spinach leaves, freshly ground black pepper on sliced Italian bread brushed with olive oil and grilled - simple and just perfect! Look for fontina at you local TJ's! Have a great weekend!
Those sandwiches look great. I enjoy the trip to and wander through Trader Joes even more than the food and wine. Same think with Ikea, where I never but anything but always have a grand time. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteYou are soooo lucky to be getting a Trader Joes!!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous.
As for your panini..I love it. Fontina is just about the best melting cheese, isn't it? I've seen Giada make a lot of paninis. She has some pretty odd combos, but this one is a winner!
Jen I love TJ's, my store is 6 minutes from my house, everytime I go I find something new I like. I always buy my fontina there and after looking at your panini I need to pull my grill off of my pantry shelf!
ReplyDeleteAdore Panini! Fresh! Like Trader Joe's but it seems a winter store for me.
ReplyDeleteYour panini looks just as good as anything I've ever had in a restaurant! (I want a panini press, lol! ) I'm jealous about TJs! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you are just as excited about this as I am! It will be less than 5 minutes from my house depending on the train station :)
ReplyDeleteI have yet to ever seen a Trader Joe's but it is obvious that I am missing something really good. I have enough trouble getting out of Costco, I can imagine a Trader Joe's too. :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers to not turning on your oven in this sweltering heat. The panini sandwich was a great idea. You are inspiring me to do the same.
How good for you to finally be getting a TJ's close to home.
ReplyDeleteYay for a new Trader Joe's. I go to ours here all the time that I should own stock in the company by now. This recipe is one of my standby's for a quick snack or easy meal. I never tire of it and yours has me craving one tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate to have TWO Trader Joe's where I live. What I love most about TJ's is that I can trust the ingredients. I try to avoid any kind of processed foods, and TJ's prices are great. This sandwich is on my list for quick snacks. Here is cool Monterey, we rejoice when the temps hit the 70's!
ReplyDeleteI'm from NJ originally, moved to LA, and am cheerfully smothered in TJ's locations. My mom, however, in Freehold, is a bit far from TJ's for it to be easily worked into busy schedules. She reported to me, a few months ago, the news you post above. Yet as of now, there doesn't appear to be NY momentum. (Also checked their website.) Have you heard any more news about it? Thanks! (Great blog, too - lovely...)
ReplyDeleteWill be great to have Trader Joe's in NJ. Just moved back to Jersey from Socal after four years and loved going to TJ's. Bummer about the no wine sales though!
ReplyDeleteCan't get anyone to tell me when Strewsbury store will open. I sent emails and was ignored and called store but it just rings...anyone have any idea?
ReplyDeleteThe response I received directly from Trader Joe's is the 2nd or 3rd week of March.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about the new TJ store opening up and the trip will save GAS. I often go to the Brookline Ma. When i travel up to visit my daughter. Now all the Shrewsbury store needs is the greatest graphic artist, my soon to be son in law Eric. You have to go to the Brookline store in Ma. to get him. Then all my dreams would be answered. My family in Nj and Trader Joe's near my home. Thanks TJ Ginny H
