It is the simple things that make me happy and restore my faith in humanity. In my area, there are many roadside stands where people put out home grown vegetables and a can or box to collect the proceeds; all on the honor system. I love this particular stand on Victory Rd. in Howell, NJ. It makes me smile. Fresh eggs, honey, and home grown vegetables all available on the honor system - I love that it works!

There is also a stand like this near my home...I was shocked to see it. But, yes, how refreshing it is to see a business put the trust out there...with the expectation that it will be reciprocated...
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute cart. Is that a scarecrow or doll on the left?
Carmen
I would love to hit this stand on my way home tomorrow (I live in Howell) - was it easy to find from the road?
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
ReplyDeleteIt is right on the side of Victory Rd. - one mile off of Lakewood Farmingdale Rd. (547). There is a small sign on 547 pointing the way. Enjoy!
Hi Carmen,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the scarecrow/doll. I'll check it out closely next time I stop by. Thanks for visiting!
There are a few honor boxes in Lambertville, and I love it.
ReplyDeleteBought nice fresh stuff at some Spring Lake farm stand today. Those tomatoes have been SO good!
There's a stand not far from me that works this way, and I do hope that people continue to "honor" the system.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure? All stands here come with "people attached." It seems to be a throwback to a gentle world.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute food cart...and I love the honor system idea.
ReplyDeleteThat is a treasure. We have a few places here that sell cut flowers and occasionally berries in this way. I don't know if they've found the honor system to work as it should. I'll have to find out. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteI have seen many stands like this in Vermont (where we go every summer), but not so many in Monmouth county. I just got back from the community garden (finally a non-sunny day), and have tons of produce...maybe I should put up a stand on our dead end street..lol! I am trying your zucchini recipe tonight.
ReplyDeleteI've seen these in northern Michigan too! But I can tell you, it wouldn't last a minute where I live! Sad, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! It's things like this that restore my faith in humanity too!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love New Jersey!!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Ohio we had these types of stands all over. I have lived in New York for quite some time and just recently saw one of these stand. All they sell are potatoes but I can say those little fresh dug beauties are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI can't say I ever see this in Chicagoland, but it does restore my faith in humanity too!
ReplyDeleteJust a thank you for finding this and writing about it - this place has become a staple for us this summer. We purchase all of our eggs here and will pick up random produce on the way home from work. It is such a great little stand.
ReplyDeleteBTW - the doll hanging there is a farmer kermit-the-frog.
